Today, I want to talk about something a little different than my typical dental related humdrum. Instead, I want to tell you all about a fantastic experience I had at Fin Seafood.
When it comes to restaurants in Newport News, VA, there are so many delicious places to pick from. I’ve noticed that when my wife and I go out to eat, we tend to try and stay local.
In my experience, local restaurants use better ingredients. Not to mention, eating local stimulates the economy by putting money back into the pockets of the community farmers, fishermen, and everyone who works at the businesses.
Fin Seafood genuinely reflects my vision of what makes local businesses so great. Their menu even has a section titled “Special Thanks to Our Farmers” that lists the farms where they get all of their fresh ingredients.
The more I thought about it, the more I could tell that that Chef Kenny Sloane really cares about his community and the impact his food makes, which is why I decided to write this blog.
While the menu had a huge selection of food, I’m only going to be talking about the food that I ordered: a wedge salad, salmon entree, and a key lime pie dessert. The moment I took a bite of my wedge salad, I knew that my meal was going to be amazing. The lettuce was crisp, organic, and perfectly layered together for an amazing texture and taste.
My next course was the smoked salmon over a bed of fresh vegetables. It was beautifully presented. Almost like a work of art. The salmon was perfectly sous vide and delicately flaky. It was probably my favorite part of the entire meal, and quite possibly the best salmon I’ve ever had in my life. It was like God himself had marinated it in heaven. The sauce was a little rich, but not too rich for my palette.
And once again, I was wowed by how fresh the veggies were. The asparagus, mushrooms, and beets melded together for a delicious experience. My wife got a lobster roll. I didn’t try it, but that’s only because it was so good that she didn’t want to share.
After our meals, we decided to try the key lime bar. I might be biased, because I love all key lime-related desserts, but this one was phenomenal. It was the perfect amount of sweet to wash down the richness of my meal.
My wife and I will definitely be making many date-night trips back to Fin Seafood. The service was friendly and the food was great. Places like Fin Seafood are one of the many reasons I love living in Newport News. With that being said, if you live in Newport News and have a little extra money to treat yourself with, then I highly recommend making it over to this gem.
And did I mention that seafood is good for your teeth? It’s got a healthy amount of vitamin D, which helps your body absorb calcium for stronger teeth. Ah, oops, I said I wasn’t going to talk about teeth in this blog. Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.
