Dr. William Griffin is here blogging today from Newport News, VA telling patients not to worry about affording dental implantation, thanks to his extensive and supportive payment systems and work with various insurance providers. The shiny price tag on dental implantation procedures can be quite intimidating for patients, but here at City Center Dental Care we want to help you to make this procedure more than just a possibility. Missing spaces in the mouth can be so much more dangerous than patients even realize and can lead to serious health issues beyond the mouth and jaw.
One of the most frequently asked questions in this industry is “how much do dental implants cost?” We understand the curiosity more than anyone, unfortunately it is almost impossible to narrow down a particular cost without a consultation with Dr. Griffin. If we had to give you the most general price range, our professional guesstimate would be from $1,000 to $4,000. However, patients must be personally examined by Dr. Griffin to analyze the physical state of their gums, jawbone, and overall oral cavity.
When a patient loses a tooth or teeth, they tend to avoid using this empty space to chew and bite their food. Although generally this makes sense, it actually hurts the gum tissue and even the jawbone over time. Just as we need to keep our muscles moving and tight to keep them healthy, the gum tissue and jawbone works the same way. When a patient avoids using this area of the mouth over time, the tissue can become vulnerable, weaken and even disappear. If Dr. Griffin finds that a patient does not have a sufficient amount of gum tissue, they will not qualify for dental implants until they have a soft tissue augmentation. A soft tissue augmentation is the procedure in which the doctor extracts the excess soft tissue from the roof of the mouth and places it in the gum area to rebuild and restructure them.
Just as the gum tissue plays a major role in the success of dental implants, the jawbone does as well. In order for a patient to qualify for dental implants they must have a sufficient amount, strength and structure of bone in the jaw. If Dr. Griffin examines a patient that does not possess enough jawbone structure for the procedure, he will schedule them a bone graft. A bone graft is a bone tissue transplant in which the doctor replaces the fractured or damaged osseous tissue with new and healthy bone. Most times the excess bone is extracted from the patient’s hip or even cow bone can be used. Over the next 3-4 months, the jawbone will naturally form and regain strength again; the extent of the healing period is contingent upon the amount of bone needed in the jaw.
Once the patient has healed the proper amount of time, they will be ready to begin their process of dental implantation. Dr. Griffin will gently embed titanium alloy into inserts made into the jaw. The natural fusion of the implants in the jaw is known as osseointegration; this allows the dental implants to become a natural part of the mouth over time. Dental implantation is the leading tooth loss solution because of the biocompatible process that almost tricks the mouth into thinking the tooth or teeth were never lost in the first place. This part of the process can take the patient at least 4-6 months to complete the integration, depending on how many dental implants the patient needed.
Finally, once the process has been completed and Dr. Griffin approves the progress, the patient is ready for the tooth- colored crowns to the placed into the mouth. We spend a great deal of time matching and comparing the dental implants to each and every individual patient’s natural teeth to ensure the look, fit and feel of their new smile. We also match the contrast and color of the teeth to make sure that the two are virtually indistinguishable.
Considering this procedure can be quite costly, we do everything that we can to make sure that our patients are able to afford this important and life- changing operation. We offer Care Credit to our patients that is a credit card used specifically for paying off interest- free installments a little at a time. This allows our patients to have the means to pay for the dental procedure over an extended period of time.
We also always accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express cars, cash and personal checks to pay for this procedure.
